Last week we had every intention of going from Bay Shore to Maumee Bay State Park; however, old Mother Nature had another plan and her little thunderstorm put a kabash to our ride.
But a few days later, when the sun was shining brightly and there wasn't a cloud in the sky, we decided to try it again. Only I suggested we drive to Maumee Bay and make our way back to Bay Shore; this way we would be certain to get the second half of our ride in.
As you can see, it was a far cry from the gloomy day last week. Maumee Bay is one of the most beautiful parks in this area. Add the sun along the lake, and no picture could do it justice; but I took one anyway...
So far this year I've only managed to get a 15 or 16 mile ride in on any given day, but with the nice sunny weather today, I was sure we could manage to make it to twenty.
As we ventured back into the wooded trail my eyes started playing tricks on me, because I could swear we were riding into a snow storm! there were mounds of white fluffy cotton everywhere. But this was June and 75 degrees... It may have looked like snow, but my allergies told me otherwise, because I could feel the effects of the cottonwood clear down to my throat.
I gagged my way through this winter wonderland; but not before taking a few pictures... Hellooo... snow in June?? Who would believe it??
We made it out of the blizzard and from there we headed to Bay Shore Park.
This is where I took the pictures last week, where it looked like my car was under water. What a difference a few days makes.
As I was taking my last few pictures before we ventured on to finish our ride I saw about three million May Flies congregating on the rocks.
However, I had to question if they were May flies or June bugs, because I've heard them called both. But since this was June I'm guessing it was the latter.

When we made it back to Maumee Bay we were just under thirteen miles. My riding buddy/trainer said "I really need to get going, so we have to end the ride here". I said "When are we ever going to get that 20 mile ride in...?" He said "Maybe when "We" curtail some of the pictures... I guess I may never see that twenty mile mark... Oh well, a ride with out pictures is like putting money in a slot machine and walking away from the pay out...
It just doesn't make sense:)
I know the Bike To The Bay is over 50 miles of riding and I have no idea if I'll be ready for it; but one way or another I'll make it happen. For now I just have to remember, it's not only about crossing that finish line; but the journey along the way:)
Have a great day!!
Christine:)
Christine and the Cottonwood kinda sounds like Dorothy and the poppies in the Wizard of Oz! I like your slot machine analogy for the pictures! :)
